Inspiration Point

Inspiration When You Least Expect It

It seems, at times, I get my best ideas when I'm not trying to be
inspired.  I could be in the shower and I get an idea for an article.
I can be at the gym and come up with a possible solution to a problem
I’m wrestling with.

I'm sure this is not unique to me.

Many times we need to get away from a project or problem to
allow for the various aspects of it to fall into place for us.  It's this outside
perspective that allows us to see our problem or situation in a new
light.  Perhaps being in a totally unrelated setting helps us get away
from the pressure of "solving" a situation and the mind is then free to
find its way without any pressure of expectation.

I know of writers and other creative types who carry a small
notebook or a digital recorder to capture ideas immediately as they arise.
I know artists who will never go out without their sketchpad to capture
a picture idea they come upon.  These people know that inspiration can
come anytime and they are ready to grab the idea before it gets away.

Take a look at your own process of how you problem solve in your
business or life situations. Do you have a place to go for inspiration?
Some people do have specific places they like to go to that helps them
gather their thoughts.

For some, being outdoors, like the beach, the mountains, or
in a nearby park helps them get away from the pressures of forcing
oneself to find a solution.  Others find activities like jogging,
walking, swimming, or (so I'm told) housecleaning to be a means of
getting away that allows their creative juices to flow.

Find your place for inspiration.  If you can't think of a specific place or
activity that you currently use, notice when ideas come up for you.  Pay
attention to what you are doing or your surrounding when you get your
flashes of inspiration. Be open to ideas that come to you wherever you go.
You may want to carry a notebook or small digital recorder to be sure to
capture these ideas. When you find your place for inspiration, plan to use
it on a regular basis.  See if you find yourself with inspirational ideas when
you least expect them.
